Karl Kaufmann (Austrian, 1843-1902/05). "On the Grand Canal", oil on canvas, signed lower left "L. Bertini", a common pseudonym for Kaufmann. Vividly colored seascape painting depicting many gondolas afloat on the Canal Grande in Venice, Italy, the canal's bank along the horizon line with many structures and the campanile and domes of Basilica San Marco in view at left behind the line of buildings. Framed approximately 20.25" x 28.5". Unframed approximately 14.5" x 23". Note: Karl Kaufmann is recognized for using several pseudonyms to sign his many works, including "B. Lambert", "Charles Marchand" and "C. Charpentier", with "L. Bertini" used most often when signing works depicting the Venetian canals like the work presented in this lot.
