GEORGE III STERLING SILVER TANKARD, WILLIAM SHAW, LONDON, 1762-1763, H 7 3/4":Domed, hinged cover with scrolled thumb lift, cylindrical shape with flaring sides, engraved coat of arms and "Richard Saunders, 1762" at the front, engraved crest of an elephant head at the cover. Hallmarks include lion passant, crowned leopard, date letter gothic G enclosed, and maker's mark WS in an oval (see photo). Diameter 5 1/2" at the base. Weighing approximately 27.39 troy oz. Holds about a quart. (rev.20070911)
