Attributed to Lemuel Francis Abbott (English, 1760-1803), an oil on canvas painting of a gentleman, possibly Admiral Sir Henry Trollope (1756-1839), painted in half-length wearing a white neck scarf, a dark blue jacket with gold buttons on white lapels and cuffs, holding a dagger in his right hand, with a rolled parchment to his right decorated with nautical symbols, seated in front of a dark moody sky atop stormy seas. Admiral Sir Henry Trollope was an officer of the British Royal Navy and served in the American Revolutionary War before captaining his own ship. Apparently unsigned. Label on verso from previous auction or exhibition. Framed 36" x 30.5, unframed 30.5" x 25.5".
