Original typed Booker T. Washington (American, 1856-1915) speech titled "THE PROGRESS OF THE NEGRO RACE" delivered for The New York City Club on March 13, 1912. Original typed 9 page document with overlapping text on single page (page 3 & 4). Work possibly a working draft for final speech. Speech discusses the origins of the Tuskegee Institute and progress created since its founding. Typed page measures approximately 11" x 8.75". Provenance: From the Estate of Booker T. Washington. Note on provenance: Copy of letter from Booker T. Washington's granddaughter, Robin Washington Banks, confirming provenance is available upon request. Letter states her inheritance of the estate and its ultimate sale to the consignor of this lot.
