ENGLISH WALNUT & ELM SLANT-FRONT DESK, PRE 1780, H 42", W 33", D 20":Possibly George I (1714-1727), the slant-front opens to form writing surface and reveal interior fitted drawers and pigeon holes, three drawers at the base with small kneehole, raised on cabriole legs ending in pad feet. Provenance: Descended in the family of Sir William Pepperrell of Kittery Point, Maine and acquired by Mr. and Mrs. Paul Mellon, Washington, D.C.; acquired by present owner from a sale of furnishings from Mr. and Mrs. Paul Mellon, June 1977.
