Attributed to James Digman Wingfield (British, 1800-1872). "French Garden Scene with Figures", oil on canvas, apparently unsigned. Very finely painted period scene depicting castle gardens with many figures scattered throughout, one woman to right seated on a stone bench with her dog, a couple walking along a shaded pathway into background toward a fountain and landscape in distance at center right, a group of three ladies and two gentlemen with a small servant boy at center under a mass of trees, one figure to their left leaning over a stone wall that flanks to either side a set of stairs with Neoclassical figural sculptures to each end, and the corner of a stone castle to left up a large stair case with figures at top overlooking the scene. Frost & Reed label to verso. Framed approximately 34" x 45.75", unframed 28" x 40".
