AMERICAN EMPIRE MERIDIENNE/SINGLE-ARMED MAHOGANY SOFA, C. 1820, H 33 1/4", D 27 1/2", L 73":Attributed to New York State-circa 1820-1830. The partially closed upholstered back has raised arm flanked by a single standing, full colonette in figured mahogany. The colonette has embossed gilt brass decorative banding below a cylindrical mahogany cap with a concentrically turned cap. The base of colonette is also banded embossed brass above a round plinth over a large acanthus carved urn above a reeded turnip foot. The straight seat rails are exposed. The back and arm have rounded crest rails in figured veneer. The back crest rail extends to approximately one half the sofa length and has a turned moulded end cap. A cyma profile, moulded rail continues to a lower post with a turned cap. The left front leg extends to the top of the seat rail and has a partially turned cap and repeats the acanthus carving. The left end seat rail is semi-circular in shape. All legs match and are on the original brass coasters. The upholstery is gold silk brocade.
