After Sir Joshua Reynolds (English, 1723-1792). "Portrait of Sir William Chambers", oil on canvas, apparently unsigned. Finely painted 19th century Grand Manner portrait depicting the noted architect Sir William Chambers (English/ Swedish, 1723-1796) after the original by Reynolds of c.1780, the subject depicted in his later years seated with left shoulder to foreground, his plump and reddened face peering over shoulder toward viewer and displaying thoughtful dark eyes over strong nose and pert pink lips, his curled and powdered hair of striking contrast to the solid dark background, the architect bringing a writing quill toward his face with a delicately handled plump hand emerging from a white ruffled shirt cuff, his alternate arm resting to a table or desk in front of the subject upon a large book. Framed approximately 37" x 32.25". Unframed approximately 30" x 25". Provenance: From the Estate of Henry G. Muecke Jr., Atlanta, Georgia.
