Circle of John Frederick Kensett (American (Pennsylvania/ New York), 1816-1872). "Wooded Landscape with Figures", oil on wood panel, apparently unsigned. Well rendered naturalistic painting depicting a wide landscape vista with full and lush tall green tress along horizon line to middle ground, the frontmost trees at left brightened by a patch of light cast down from an unseen sun, with two figures, a man and woman, walking before the trees and captured in the sunlit ground, the scene with a small house or cottage at right set back within a meadow beyond the treeline and flanked by similar trees, with a low mountain range in far distance seen through a break in the trees, the scene set below blue sky with puffy white cumulus clouds throughout. Period paper label fragment to verso inscribed in pencil "Kensett". Framed approximately 20" x 23.375", unframed approximately 13.75" x 17.5". Provenance: From the Estate of Henry G.
