JAPANESE SHIGARAKI WARE LARGE JAR, EDO PERIOD (1615-1868), H 14", W 11":Stoneware with ash glaze with custom display case. From Shiga Prefecture. Shigaraki ware was manufactured as storage containers, mainly for peasants. Provenance: Detroit Institute of Arts Founders Society Purchase, Ralph Harman Booth Fund, Henry Ford II Fund and Benson and Edith Ford Fund, acquisition #1986.5 - provenance on file.
