After Giambologna (Flemish, 1529-1608), "Mercury", cast bronze, apparently unsigned. A diminutive sculpture depicting the nude Roman god Mercury (Greek: Hermes), the figure depicted leaping with one foot elevated above the face of cherub engaged in blowing air, possibly a representation of a wind god or a god of purification, his right arm curled up above head, and his left hand at side grasping a caduceus handle, both ankles with small wings and a winged helmet to figure's head, the sculpture mounted to a rectangular black marble plinth with beveled edges. Overall approximate height 13.625", width 3.25", depth 4".
