American, 19th century. A tall obelisk form slate mercury thermometer with inlaid stone and bone, the pediment to front with pietra dura decoration of a stem of white flower blossoms and buds with green leaves, and the shaft with a conforming band of malachite surrounding the bone thermometer dial, the bone inscribed to left of glass with black Arabic numerals from 0 to 140 degrees fahrenheit, the thermometer measuring temperatures from -10 to 145 degrees, and to right of glass with "BLOOD HEAT", "SUMR HEAT", TEMPE RATE" and FREEZ ING".
