Pair of Delaware Valley banister back side chairs, ca. 1720 , each with an arched crest and turned stiles, over a rush seat supported by turned legs joined by a front ball and ring turned medial stretcher. They retain an old black painted surface, 49 1/4" h. For a similar example, see Forman, American Seating Furniture 1630-1730 , fig. 74. Provenance: Ginsberg & Levy, 1962. Another pair was offered in the Collection of Mr. & Mrs. Walter Jeffords, Sotheby's, Oct. 2004, lot 240.
