French, Louis XVI period (1774-1793), late 18th century. A petite secrétaire à abbatant or fall-front secretary desk of narrow proportions in the Louis XVI style with three top faux drawers, rosewood with mahogany crossbanding and gilt brass mounts, comprising a Rosso Albania marble top over the serpentine rosewood drawer facade with seven mahogany crossbanded drawers (three faux drawers and four actual drawers) with gilt brass pulls and keyhole escutcheons, the the fall-front lid disguised as three top drawers opening to reveal a green baise writing surface framed by bird's eye maple, surmounted by a storage area comprising an open storage shelf framed mold cavetto molded corners with central serpentine molding over one long drawer surmounting two short drawers, over four functional drawers lined in golden oak, the rosewood case sides decorated with mahogany banding, all raised on a pedestal base with serpentine front, gadrooned brass trim, brass corner mounts with classical scroll motifs and rocaille center mount .
