Continental, probably Italian, early 19th century. A large polychrome wood and gold leaf over gesso carved angel, possibly Archangel Saint Michael, the figure apparently in flight with arms outstretched (one hand missing symbolic implement), wearing a carved gold cloak gathered over one shoulder. The figure is mounted to wood brace at the back and secured onto a later square stepped platform. Approximate height 37.5", width 24" (hand to hand), square base 12.8".
