IRVING R. BACON [AMERICAN 1875-1962], OIL ON CANVAS, 30" X 48":"A Duel Between the ___." Marked, dated and signed lower right: "Copyrighted 1911 by Irving R. Bacon - Red Ford"; period or original wood frame. Partial label on verso of top stretcher bar lists the title and indicates that the painting was in the Twenty-Fourth Annual (exhibition, but the type/location of the exhibition has been torn off) - there is also another hidden, partial label behind this first label (see last photo detail). Scene depicts Col. W.F. Cody (Buffalo Bill) killing the Cheyenne chief, Yellow Hand, and his horse in a duel from the Sitting Bull campaign (see photo detail of the label on the frame).
