Maurice Ascalon (Israeli 1913–2003) for Pal-Bell Co. , Ltd. bronze ash tray (circa 1940) or dish rendered in the form of a snail. Gilt antennae above indentations on edge of dish to rest cigarettes. Marked behind antennae on dome with company's mark. Height 2.75". Ascalon is regarded by some to be the key founder and innovator of Israeli modern decorative arts movement in the mid 20th century.
