JAPANESE SATSUMA BOX BY RYOZAN, H 2", W 1 3/4" SQUARE:Square shape with a panel at each side, two depict krako boys playing and two depict valuable objects, raised on four feet, signed. Provenance: Dr. Donald Sutherland of Canada, purchased from the Japanese display at the 1904 Louisiana Purchase Exhibition, St. Louis, Missouri; acquired by William and Jo-Ann Van Rooy, 1968, and their collection was recently featured in the book SHAPE & DECORATION IN JAPANESE EXPORT CERAMICS by Nancy N. Schiffer, copyright 2002, p.112.
