JAPANESE SATSUMA VASE BY KOZAN, H 5 1/4":Having a short neck above flat shoulder, featuring four reserves, two of which depict groups of men in a landscape, the other two ceremonial objects, signed (see photo). Provenance: Dr. Donald Sutherland of Canada, purchased from the Japanese display at the 1904 Louisiana Purchase Exhibition, St. Louis, Missouri; acquired by William and Jo-Ann Van Rooy, 1968, and their collection was recently featured in the book SHAPE & DECORATION IN JAPANESE EXPORT CERAMICS by Nancy N. Schiffer, copyright 2002, p.155.
