JAPANESE SATSUMA TEA CADDY BY KITAYAMA, H 6":Ginger jar form with lid opening to interior cover, both of which are decorated, the exterior features men in military uniforms at one side and sages at the other, with overlapping figural reserves, signed. Provenance: Dr. Donald Sutherland of Canada, purchased from the Japanese display at the 1904 Louisiana Purchase Exhibition, St. Louis, Missouri; acquired by William and Jo-Ann Van Rooy, 1968, and their collection was recently featured in the book SHAPE & DECORATION IN JAPANESE EXPORT CERAMICS by Nancy N.
