EDWARD BENJAMIN HERBERTE, OIL ON CANVAS, 16" X 24", 'ON THE WAY TO THE MEET' (BRITISH, 1857-1893):Traditional hunting scene depicts a large equestrian group, some on horseback and others in a cart drawn by four horses. The men are in red/scarlet hunting coats and the women in blue/navy coats. The group within the cart are mostly in black coats, but there is one woman apparent as well as two men with red collars protruding from underneath their overcoats. Receding gently into the distance is an autumnal landscape, complete with a windmill at the right portion of the background. Signed "E.B. Herberte" and dated "1885" at the lower right. The painting is within a gilt frame, 19 3/4" x 27 1/2" overall, which has a title and artist name plaque adhered to the lower portion which reads "On the Way to the Meet E.B. Herberte". The reverse of the frame has an old partial Frost & Reed paper label, with typeface and hand written portions, which read "Registered Stock Number: 3663, Artist: E.B. Herberte, Title: On the Way to the Meet. F.R. (for Frost & Reed) Records of the Picture (appears to be) rm x.x. m x.x. (a line) ro x.x.".
