John Karl Hillers (German/ American, 1843-1925). "A General View of Zuni" - circa 1879-1881, mammoth plate positive photographic transparency, signed within plate lower right "HIL". This period enlargement from the glass negative depicts a wide angle view of a Zuni pueblo in New Mexico, with tribal architecture spreading along the horizon line and a rough hewn tree branch fence stretching out to the left and also forming a yard to the front right of architecture. A stone wall at center supports the hillside which the pueblo sits on, and a half-built stone building sets in the center foreground surrounded by a wall built from boulders and patchy grass. Inscribed within plate lower left "A General View of Zuni" and lower right "HIL". Overall approximately 32.25" x 38.5", image approximately 25.25" x 31".
