ELLA PETERS, AFTER PEWABIC, 'EARLY TO BED' IRIDESCENT GLAZED CUP, MID 20TH C. , H 3 1/2", DIA 3":Brown cup with iridescent glaze is said to have been made after the original Pewabic Pottery piece, c. 1910, and depicts a rooster on a fence with the text "Early to Bed Early to Rise" underneath it. Signed "ELLA" on the underside. Ella Peters (1901-1994) was a Pewabic employee from 1938-1969. She was employed as Mary Stratton's (Pewabic Pottery's founder) personal secretary and carried on much of the day to day management of Pewabic's operations from the 1950's onward. Upon retirement in 1969, she with her husband Ira, continued to make pieces out of their home on Chadsworth in Detroit using original molds, glaze formulas and techniques. Most pieces signed ELLA IRA on bottom.
