Attributed to John Hopner (English, 1758-1810). "Portrait of John Forbes", oil on canvas, apparently unsigned. Painting depicts the Royal Navy Admiral Sir John Forbes with long grey hair and sideburns, seated at waist length wearing a black high collared jacket with silver buttons over a black cravat and white bowed neck scarf, the subject at 3/4 angle turning face to his left. Labels to top and verso of frame from Christie's. Framed approximately 38" x 33.5", unframed approximately 30" x 25".
