PRE-COLUMBIAN POTTERY VESSELS (2) & A FIGURE, H 3 1/2":Including 1 bulbous vessel molded as a figure with hands at his mouth, 1 other globular vessel with remnants of red patina, and 1 figure. From the collection of Dr. Irving F. Burton, a Detroit pediatrician who died in 2011 at the age of 93. He was President, Archives of American Art, Smithsonian; Life Trustee, Detroit Institute of Arts. Dr. Burton’s collection mainly consisted of 19th and 20th century American paintings. By 1966 his collection comprised over 60 paintings, drawings, and etchings, and over 100 objects of such as pottery, bronzes, glass, etc. Dr. Burton donated items from his collection to the Detroit Institute of Arts and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and was also featured in Time Magazine, November 20th, 1972.
