ITALIAN MICRO MOSAIC & ENAMEL PATCH BOX, VIEW OF ST. PETER'S BASILICA, DIA 2":A round box with hinged lid with panoramic view of St. Peter's Basilica, Rome, rendered in micromosaic, the underside with a silvered boat with driver on a black enameled ground (see photo). No apparent markings--similar to the work of Cesare Roccheggiani, a master mosaicist active in the Vatican Mosaic Workshop, 1856-1864. Measures H.1 1/8", Dia.2 1/8".
