MARSHALL FREDERICKS, BRONZE CHIMPANZEE SCULPTURE, 13", "THE THINKER", RARE SIGNED EDITION:BRONZE SCULPTURE, "THE THINKER", ARTIST SIGNED, H 13": Depicting chimpanzee in pose reminiscent of Rodin’s "Thinker". The original granite sculpture was commissioned by George Booth for the Cranbrook Art Museum, Bloomfield Hills, MI. Provenance: Collection of Charles Hammond, former Executive Director of the Detroit Zoological Society. Mr. Hammond is known for his efforts, along with former zoo Director Steve Graham, in raising the funds necessary for the "Chimps of Harambee" exhibit which was the first primate exhibit of its kind in North America. Mr. Hammond was a personal friend of Marshall Fredericks and the artist signed this work in his studio shortly before his death in 1998.
