STERLING COVERED TROPHY CUP, LONDON, 1888, BY JOHN NEWTON MAPPIN, H 19" OVERALL, W 15 1/2":Ostentatious trophy cup includes a fitted cover that is enhanced with scroll and floral designs surmounting a body with similar decoration that is flanked by scrolling acanthus leaf covered handles on either side. The body is stamped at one side with markings that include an uncrowned leopard's head, date letter N (1888), queen’s profile, lion passant, maker’s mark "JNM" enclosed in a shield. Engraved "The Grosse Pointe Horse Show, The Cudlip Cup" at one side with the other side having floral motifs. The cover bears no hallmarks. The trophy with cover total approximately 89.28 trz. Also with a painted black wood stand with engraved plaques giving the names and dates of other recipients, from 1956 to 1973. Inside of the cup there are two clippings from a magazine that show Miss Julie Cudlip presenting the cup to Miss Claire Lang Miller and one other showing the cup displayed on the base.
