English, 19th century. A petite or ladies' red lacquered slant top secretary desk with allover gilt chinoiserie decoration, the top and drawer facade allover decorated with outdoor scenes of trees, and human figures dressed in traditional Chinese costume near traditional Chinese style architecture on red lacquer ground, the slant top lid opening to rest on two lopers, the slant top interior comprising an embossed brown leather writing surface with five cubby holes separated by gilt molded dividers over four small drawers forming a serpentine serpentine curve, the lower case comprising three front drawers with brass pulls and backplates, the sides decorated with Chinese inspired gilt flowers with gilt floral borders, all raised on four bracket feet with gilt floral decoration. Replaced yellow pine top back board. Approximate height 34", width 24.25", depth 16".
