Grant's secretary, also including several Abraham Lincoln and Andrew Johnson secretarial signed; others pertain to J. W. Stinchfield; many deal with Wayne and Saginaw counties; also military service land grants, school and university land grants. David Whitney, Jr. (1830-1900), lumber baron and land owner. By the turn of the century, he was one of Detroit’s wealthiest men and largest landowners. His fortune was estimated at $7 million to $10 million in the 1890s.
