Painting depicting a young Balinese female nude wading in water with a pink flower blossom dangling from long hair. Young beauty further ornamented with white headdress. Woman in abstracted water and landscape, possibly unfinished. Framed 31.2" x 28.7". Unframed 25.6" x 23.1". Provenance: Acquired directly from artist, Mr. Emmit Noland, New York and Rome, Italy thence by descent to his nephew Mr. Mark Cantrell, Lilburn, Georgia in 2007.Provenance Note:This Meier work was inherited from the Estate of Emmit Noland, Jr. by his nephew Mark Cantrell of Lilburn, Georgia in 2007. According to the consignor, this painting was in Mr. Emmit Noland, Jr.'s apartment in Rome, Italy in 1956. As a child, he visited his uncle in the summer of 1956 in Italy and remembers the work as being striking and instantly fell in love with the painting. According to the consignor, he was told by his uncle that he purchased it in Indonesia sometime in the early 1950s when he worked for the United States Embassy. The consignor, Mr. Cantrell believes that this piece may have been directly purchased from the artist and his uncle tended to buy from artist's directly rather than go through an agent or a gallery.
