A mid-19th century painting after Guido Reni (Italian, 1574-1642). "Aurora", oil on canvas, apparently unsigned. The original painting is a fresco on the ceiling a garden palace called "Casino dell'Aurora", which is located on the grounds of the Palazzo Pallavicini-Rospigliosi in Rome, Italy. The painting depicts a Classical scene with Apollo in his chariot preceded by a flying Dawn (Aurora) who is carrying floral wreaths in her hands as she ushers in light to the world. These characters are flanked by a group of women walking alongside the chariot atop the clouds, and a winged putto flying beside and carrying a torch. Label on verso of stretcher "Certificate of Authenticity, Guido Reni, "Aurora", circa 1850". Framed 27.25" x 50.5", unframed 17.75" x 41".
