French, 18th C. Palatial French walnut marriage armoire from Arles or possibly Nimes, France, with arched crest above a carved floral basket adorned with high relief carved doves surrounded by an oak leaf wreath, which symbolizes fidelity, over the pair of molded and fielded paneled doors, centered with a panel ornamentation representing the French flambeau and torch for eternity along with a basket filled with foliage and nuts symbolizing prosperity and enclosing an interior now retro-fitted for a flat screen television, resting on the pierced apron centered with fruit filled urn and pierced scrolling acanthus raised on squat cabriole legs terminating in scrolled toes. Height 107" width 60", depth 23.5", the interior with a depth 21.5". Provenance: Purchased from Jacqueline Adams Antiques Interiors, 2300 Peachtree Road, N.W., Suite B100, Atlanta, Georgia on 6/9/2000 in the amount of $43,500.Original receipt to accompany purchase if desired.
