C. SHARP'S NEW MODEL 1863 (1869 CONVERSION), .50 CAL CARBINE, #86909, C1870, L 29" BBL:This C. Sharp's New Model 1863, 'Falling Block' lever action, is a fine example of the 1869 conversion update to metal cartridges. Originally a .52 caliber barrel, this example was sleeved to accept the .50-70 brass cartridge, possibly at the Springfield armory. Having a 29" round barrel with iron front sight and a rear adjustable sight. Inscribed on top of barrel at the receiver "New Model". Stamped on the side plate: "R.S. Lawrence Pat. April 12th 1859" and "C. Sharp's Pat. Oct 5th 1852". Stamped F.B. & Co. 45" on receiver in front of hammer and also as a cartouche at the wrist of the walnut stock. Also walnut forearm.
