Bert Stern (American, 1929-2013), "Avant Garde Marilyn Monroe" circa 1969, black light edition color serigraphs reproductions for Avant Garde magazine. Modern bright neon colored (day-glo) screen print in 'dot-matrix' style depicting iconic images of the actress, model and sex symbol Marilyn Monroe (American, born Norma Jeane Mortenson, 1926-1962). Images from Stern's shoot with Monroe in the famous "Last Sitting" in July of 1962 at the Bel Air Hotel in Los Angeles, California. Framed approximately 16.5" x 60.5". Note: The four screen print images framed in this lot were originally part of a twelve-page spread of Bert Stern’s screen prints that appeared in Issue 2, March 1969 of Avant Garde magazine which ran from 1968 to 1972 under their editor Ralph Ginzburg. The feature on Marilyn Monroe was entitled “The Marilyn Monroe Trip”. Both the cover of the magazine and the serigraph reproductions were printed in a process known as ‘sheet fed gravure’ which was exceptionally well-suited for duplicating the multi-screen original serigraphs.
