Chinese, likely late 19th century, Qing Dynasty (1644-1912). An emperor's dragon robe of blue, gold, and white design on brown ground suggesting that this robe was worn during courtly rituals honoring Heaven. The robe having a nine dragon motif, one on each shoulder, four around waist, one on chest, one on back , and one to interior of lapel. Also with a rampant dragon to each cuff, cloud scrolls and bats to the body, with the lower portion of robe ornamented with shui jiao (water foundation) below surging wave patterning with mountains and rocks. Approximately 55" long, 80.5 cuff to cuff across shoulders.
