French School, 18th century. "Portrait of Ninon de l'Enclos", oil on canvas, apparently unsigned. Painting depicts Anne "Ninon" de Lenclos (French, 1620-1705), famous Parisian author, courtesan, and patron of the arts, at bust length wearing a fine tan and blue dress with open neckline revealing her porcelain decolletage, her delicately featured face framed by curled brown hair held within a brown hooded cape that flows down her back, the figure set within an oval painted faux medallion. Circa 1930s label to verso of frame "Maison de Cadre, J. L. Peytrequin, 1, Rue de la Paix, LAUSANNE", a restoration and frame shop in Lausanne, Switzerland.
