American, 20th century. Paul Stankard art glass paperweight set with a thin leaf and berried root on a yellow bed and signed in cane ''S'' and numbered to the base 9/50, 04177. Height 2", diameter 2.75". Stankard, (b.1943) who is now an internationally acclaimed artist, is largely credited with changing the status of glass paperweights from that of "craft" to that of "fine art". Among many other museums, Stankard's work is exhibited at The Smithsonian Institution in Washington, DC; the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, New York; the Musée des Arts Décoratifs and the Musée du Louvre in Paris, France; the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, England; and The Corning Museum of Glass in Corning, New York.
