Emperor Qianlong (Chinese, 1711-1799, reigned 1736-1796), calligraphy couplet in standard running script with seven black ink characters each on bright pink silk hand painted with gold flecked flying bats, blooming flowers, precious objects, and cloud scrolls throughout, the calligraphy silks on a cream to yellow colored silk surround decorated with dragons amid cloud scrolls. Verso of each with pencil inscription, perhaps of translation that reads "To make the country peaceful is my duty. To help and teach the people. I may be blessed by God. Written by Chien-Lung Emperor China 1757 AD". Each with additional inscription in black ink calligraphy, one with two characters at left below center above two applied paper seals with stamped red ink, the top mark being for Qianlong period, and the other with four characters at right above center. One measures approximately 65.5" x 18.25"; the other measures approximately 69.5" x 18.25"._x000D_
