CHINESE LEAD-GLAZED EARTHENWARE JAR, YUAN DYNASTY, H 2 3/4":This jar of cream-buff earthenware body is of globular shape with short neck and flat base. Decorated in molded relief with two dragon-like animals with the heads turned backward and a flaming pearl. These strange creatures, particularly their heads, resemble the Hinduist mythological sea monster Makara. The jar is covered with lead glazes of green and yellowish-brown colors. Cf.
