MICHIGAN AUTOMOBILE CO. LTD., KALAMAZOO, MI. MODEL "A" RUNABOUT, C.1903, 54" WHEEL BASE X 36" TRACKVIN FLB5163. The vehicle has a tiller steering system and is painted red and black with four white wall tires and includes a fifth un-mounted tire and inner tubes. Information obtained from The Michigan Automobile History Collection, Detroit Public Library, states about 100 of these cars were built by the end of 1904 when production of this model stopped. Additional gold color pin striping in a vine and leaf pattern, which was added in 1958, highlights the red panels of the body. Oil lamps were used for night driving. One is mounted on the port side outboard of the seat. This vehicle has a 1-cylinder 3 1/2 HP engine and has one low and one high forward gear on two chain driven sprockets which are engaged by a large lever on the starboard side. Push lever forward for low and pull lever rearward for high gear. Name plate painted on the front of body stating Michigan Automobile Company, Kalamazoo, Michigan. This car was commonly known as "The Blood" after the Blood Brothers who were partners in the company with The Fuller Brothers. The company was in existance from 1903 thru 1907.
