French, 19th century, circa 1880s. A French Victorian polychrome decorated iron and wood horse form child's velocipede or tricycle with cast iron painted face, open mouth and remnants of the bridle, the side of the head mounted with cast iron and wood hand crank mechanism. The wood carved tan painted body with black hoofs in jumping position with small leather and fabric saddle and thin horse hair tail. Mounted between the front legs is a 15.8" steel wheel surmounted with cast iron foot rests. The double chain drive is located towards the back between fancy pierced cast iron work mounted to the back legs also issuing the 17.8" wheels. All three wheels and spokes are steel. Approximate height 28.8" (at the ears), length 31,8' (front tire to back tire), depth 19.4" (back wheel to wheel). Provenance: From the Estate of Mary L. Haugk, Lawrenceville, Georgia.
