English, last quarter of 18th century (c. 1785). A George III satinwood cellarette decorated with light and darkwood marquetry inlay of traditional rectangular form. The lidded top decorated with marquetry comprising of a veneered classical urn with light and darkwood banding, c-scroll and bellflower handles, and acorn finial within a darkwood oval cartouche, framed by crossbanded tulipwood veneers, the corners decorated with four quarter-round paterae, the lid with replaced hinges opening to interior storage compartment with holes for four bottles and two square adjacent compartments, the cellarette facade decorated with urn design conforming to the top, the keyhole framed by diamond-shaped tulipwood veneer above a molded plinth base with darkwood stringing, overall raised on four tapered legs with conforming darkwood stringing on small brass casters.
