Needlework Sampler, executed by Hannah Lee, Andover, Massachusetts, 1793, silk threads on a linen ground, alphabet panels over stitched signature "Hannah Lee When this You See Remember Me/Wrought In The Twelfth Year of my Age 1793," above a row of trees, enclosed in a geometric floral border, (toning), 10 1/4 x 9 1/2 in. Provenance: The sampler was bought c.1985 from the estate of Royal C. Wilson, a resident of Nahant, Massachusetts. Note: A note giving a short history of the maker of the sampler and names of family members in succeeding years was affixed to the reverse. It states that Hannah Lee was the only daughter of Capt. John Lee of Andover, Massachusetts and was the sister of Jeremiah Lee. She married Major Israel Lee Foster, and had a daughter Hannah Lee Foster who married Benjamin Leach Allen who was Chairman of the Board of Aldermen of Boston in 1853.
