Needlework Sampler, Selinda Fales, Holden, Massachusetts, c. 1812, silk threads on a linen ground, depicting two houses, a fence, and trees in an arch above five rows of alphabets, a pious verse, and fruiting plants, signed "Selinda Fales Holden Aged 10 Years," enclosed in a sawtooth border, (minor toning, fading), 16 1/4 x 16 1/4 in., framed. Provenance: By family decent of the consignor. Note: The 1880 Holden, Massachusetts, census records that a woman named Selinda Fales was born in 1802. At the time of the census she was 78 years old, and lists "keeping house" as her occupation.
