Tiffany Studios Hydrangea Cone Shade New York The shade in glass colors of blue, green, and white, signed with metal tag Tiffany Studios New York, lower beaded border, some cracks, dia. approx. 29 in.; accompanied by a large patinated metal lamp base, c. 1940, with Oriental design motif in relief, fitted with six-socket standard, unsigned, ht. 33 in. Provenance: This shade was consigned by two sisters who have been its stewards for many years. This Tiffany shade was purchased in the 1940s in Boston as a hanging shade. It was later joined to the Orientalia base. The family originally met with Jim Callahan our Orientalia specialist who quickly realized that the shade was more valuable than the base. Boston had a particularly difficult winter and the day this shade was consigned was no exception. Both the consignor and the appraiser battled six-foot high snowbanks. At that time we all felt that Spring would never come. Reference: See The Lamps of Tiffany, Dr. Ron Neustadt, Fairfield Press, p. 112, Illustration 163
