Aesthetic Movement 14kt Tricolor Gold Bracelet, Hedges & Co. , Newark, c. 1879, composed of shaped red, white, and yellow gold geometric patterned links alternating with plain links, sapphire and old European-cut diamond accents, lg. 7 1/4 in., maker's mark. Note: A similar example is illustrated in The Glitter & The Gold , Ulysses S. Dietz et al., fig. 106. In 1879, as Western interest in Asian mixed metal techniques was beginning, Hedges & Co. began using a patented process for a line of jewelry in "mottled multi-color gold." This bracelet was designed to resemble squares of checked cloth held together at the edges by pins.
