Sudetenland (Czechoslovakia), Circa 1840. Paint decorated lift top marriage trunk or chest with rectangular lid and two red painted applied rectangular moldings each centering a hand-painted urn filled floral bouquet within a cream field, the top also with applied edge moldings and fitted with original iron strap hinges over a dovetailed case featuring three paint-decorated tombstone panels also depicting urn filled flowering bouquets within a cream field, all against a blue and green-gray sponged faux marble background, the sides each with red painted applied moldings centered with a painted wreath design on cream within a cream field. The whole resting on turned squat feet, added later. Height 28.75", width 46", depth 26".
