English, 19th century. "Portrait of a Stately Gentleman", oil on canvas. Painting depicts a stately older gentleman seated in a red silk upholstered wooden chair, dressed in formal white high collar shirt with bow tie, vest, jacket, and a pocket watch chain draping from the vest pocket. Inscription on verso of canvas "Geo Rowney & Co, London" (1832-1924). Apparently unsigned. Framed 35.5" x 30.5", unframed 30" x 25".
