Chippendale Carved Walnut Armchair, Philadelphia area, c. 1760-80, the cresting centering a carved shell device, with outward scrolling arms ending in knuckle handholds, with upholstered slip seat, all on frontal cabriole legs ending in ball and claw feet joined to the raking round rear legs by a deep cyma-shaped apron, old refinish, (imperfections), ht. 39 3/4, seat ht. 17 in. seat rails show signs of having accomodated an overupholstered seat, there are some surface inconsistencies, two knee returns may be replaced, some wood screws added to strengthen the arm supports.
